Weekly Photo Challenge: SUMMER

SUMMER in Toronto, Canada means a lot of things and not all of them good. The hot, humid air brings wave after wave of smog warnings you can see as brown haze choking the city. Endless road construction makes sitting in your car in bumper to bumper traffic feel like you’re living in Dante’s Inferno.
But all is not bad. Drive an hour and a half north and you find yourself in cottage country. Immediately, the air smells better and your whole body relaxes. “The Chef” discovered this picturesque swimming hole on a random drive along a country road and it’s now our little secret (and a handful of friends we’ve brought to this spot). We usually have the place to ourselves and spend a leisurely afternoon swimming, idly chatting by the water, and then barbecuing steaks on an impromptu fire on the rocks. To me this is SUMMER.

Beautiful photo–very evocative. Perfect for the theme.
Definitely summer.
thank for dropping by my blog.
Nice shot.
In my opinion, the summer smog really is the worst aspect of being in Southern Ontario. It’s disgusting, unquestionably unhealthy and at times potent enough to onscure the visual beauty.
Ontario; nevertheless, truly is a tremendously beautiful province. From the natural beauty of the north to even the heavily urbanized south. Ontarians really don’t toot our horn as much as we actually could get away with without seeming conceited.
I’ve lived in Ontario and BC, and have travelled between both provinces by plane and train; visiying a few places in between. This country really is something to behold.
My wife and I have yet to venture out to the eastern maritimes. We’re looking forward to it.
You’re right about the smog. Just yesterday my girlfriends and I went on a hike on the Bruce Trail. Driving back into Toronto my girlfriend commented on the brown haze over the city. Ontario really is a beautiful province with some great Provincial and National Parks.
My husband and I have been to the east a few times. You’ve got to go visit there. We loved it out there. Canada is so damn big!
Looks like a wonderful summer getaway!
So tranquil. (And thanks for stopping by my blog.)

So very beautiful!!!
We’re fortunate here in Ontario. There are so many beautiful lakes to discover. There are over 900 in this area alone!
It’s a beautiful photo!
The water looks so still, just like the man, as if both are simply appreciating the sunny weather of summer.
That’s exactly it!

Thanks for sharing with us your little secret. Sometimes the best places are the one’s we discovered by accident. Wonderful Summer getaway indeed.
Yes indeed. The unexpected can be the best thing for our soul.
It looks so tranquil and cool there. Wonderful secret place.
It is such a tranquil spot. You just hear the sounds of nature.
What a beautiful place – so glad that you found something so special and not far from the city. It continues to amaze me that there are such gems just waiting within a two hour (usually!) drive of Toronto.
I think it’s getting harder and harder to find these little pockets as urbanisation slowly creeps outword.
Perfect summer place.
Yes, the perfect get-away from the city.
Thank you so much for stopping in my blog, nice pict
I think you nailed down all that is summer!
Great shot…
It’s not hard to get a great shot in this natural setting.
It’s an amazing place so quiet and still plenty of energy – you’re right – but the moment it must be caught and it’s not runing into the camera by itself… ‘smile’
